Normalize, classify, resolve, then promote
1. Normalize raw input
Trim scanner noise, standardize barcode forms, and preserve the original raw value for auditability.
2. Classify identifier type
Determine whether the event is UPC, shelf tag code, internal code, or unknown before matching attempts begin.
3. Resolve against registry
Search for exact and scoped matches. If confidence is insufficient, route to unresolved rather than inventing truth.
4. Bind evidence and meaning
Attach proof, context, and retailer/store scope before promotion into product truth or execution surfaces.
